Abstract

732,205. Pallets for handling loads. SJOBLOM, A. E'., and HANSEN, N. I. Sept. 7, 1953 [Sept. 17, 1952], No. 24732/53 Class 78 (4). The deck boards 10 of a pallet are removably secured within a frame 1 by one or more wedges 11 so that damaged boards may readily be replaced. The frame is preferably of metal and comprises'oppositely facing channels 1, 1 joined by angle irons 5, a space 6 being left between one or both ends of the angle irons and the web of the adjacent channel sections. The upper flanges 3 of the channel sections are shorter than the lower channels 4 to assist in inserting the deck boards, and the upper flanges may be replaced by suitable projections the web. The ends of the deck boards 10 may have tenons taking into the channels. Where a securing wedge 11 is inserted at one side only the channel sections on opposite sides are preferably of unequal depth. As illustrated, angle irons 7 forming legs are welded to the channels 1 and to the angle irons 5 and carry at their lower ends angle section brackets 8 by which boards 9 forming the base of the pallet are secured.
