Abstract

1505866 Cargo containers R S DOUGHERTY 19 May 1975 21351/75 Heading B8P A floor structure for a cargo container comprises a rigid rectangular metal frame including side and end rails 64, 76, Fig. 4 and a plurality of relatively stiff cross-members 38, Figs. 4, 5, placed at intervals along the length of the side rails 64 and having web portions 42, Fig. 9, located substantially in a common plane, each web portion having a depending wall 44 at at least one edge thereof, a plurality of metal plate members 40, each located between a pair of adjacent cross-members, and welded at their edges to the cross-members, so that the web portions and plate members form a substantially smooth planar surface, and side rail members 64 being welded to the ends of the cross-members and plate members. As described the cross-members 38 have two depending walls 44 and further cross-members 54 having only one such wall are also provided. Depressions 50 are formed at the edges of the web portions of the cross-members to receive the edges of the plate members 40. The plate members and the cross-members may each have reinforcing depressions 60, 62. The floor may be welded to end frame members and corrugated side walls, and the side frame members 64 may have apertures to receive the forks of a fork lift truck.
