Abstract

629,772. Lifting cradles. THOMAS & BALDWINS, Ltd., R. and DAVIES, A. G. Nov. 24, 1947, No. 31047. [Class 78 (iv)] A cradle for handling metal bars comprises a channel section base fitted with upstanding posts at its ends and at one or more intermediate points, and resting upon transversely extending feet, wooden blocks or like members being arranged in the channel section base between the posts for supporting a load of bars laid across them. Figs. 1, 3 show a cradle for transporting steel bars, which consists of a base a of channel iron having welded supporting feet b, b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>3</SP> and being provided at each end with a T-section post formed by a web &c. welded to a flange c<SP>1</SP>. Intermediate these posts and welded to the base a are H-section posts, each comprising a web d with flanges d<SP>1</SP>. Replaceable hard-wood blocks e for supporting the steel bars are secured by bolts f to the base a in the spaces between the posts.
