Abstract
597,546. Mine-supporting arches. JOHN, E. T. Aug. 22, 1945, No. 21487. [Class 20 (ii) ] To enable steel mine arches to be connected in parallel relation, each arch has secured thereto a number of lugs so that tie-rods may be engaged therewith without the weakening of the arch by holes for tierod securing-members. The beams 10 of the arches may be of H-section and lugs 11, Fig. 2, may be welded to the flanges and web, the lugs 11 being apertured to receive the bent-over ends of the tie-rods 12. The lugs may be of angle section, one flange of the angle being welded or riveted to the arch. The lugs may be spaced from the web of the arch members, so that the bent-over ends of tie-bars may be engaged between the lugs and the arch members. In a further modification members 41, Fig. 7, with eyed ends for the reception of the tie-rods, may be welded to the inside flange of the arch members. The tie-rods may extend horizontally or diagonally between the corresponding members of the arches.
