Abstract

735,956. Floor shuttering supports. MILLS SCAFFOLD CO., Ltd. Jan. 26, 1954 [March 31, 1953], No. 8963/53. Class 20 (2). A beam for floor centring or for supporting shuttering, includes outer and inner telescoping sections 1, 2, each having respectively a platform top 3, 3a and a spaced lower boom bar or tube 6, 6a parallel to the platform and connected thereto by lattice or zig-zag side members 7, 7a, and releasable clamping means are provided for securing the sections in relative position to afford a required overall beam length. In the outer section 1 an elongated flat plate which forms the platform top 3 is provided with side flanges 4 along which angle irons 5, Fig. 4, are secured with webs 5a extending inwardly to form runways for the inner sections 2. The zig-zag tubes or bars 7 are welded to the under sides of the webs 5a and to opposite sides of the boom bar or tube 6. A stirrup rod 8 welded to the webs 5a and to the boom 6 provides additional reinforcement at each end of the section 1. Two inner sections 2 engaging in opposite ends of the outer section 1 may be provided, each consisting of a top plate 3a to the underside of which are welded angle irons with webs 5b, 5c disposed so that the apices of the angle irons constitute runners for co-operation with the runways 5a of the outer section. The zigzag tubes or bars 7a are welded to the underside of the plate 3a along the inside of the angle irons, and to the boom bar or tube 6a. A V-shaped loop 8a welded to the plate 3a and to the top of the boom 6a provides additional reinforcement at each end of the inner sections 2. On the external ends of the inner sections 2 are provided angle irons 11 forming an extension for engaging a supporting structure. A prop stand 12 secured by side braces 13, extends across the inner section slightly inset from the external end. The clamping means consists of bolts 9 engaging tapped sleeves passed through holes in the boom 6, and carrying shoes 10 which are engageable with the boom 6a. A bolt 14a secured to an angle iron web 5a co-operates with a stop plate 14 secured to an angle iron web 5b to prevent complete withdrawal of the inner section. In a modification, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), only one inner section is provided, in which case, that end of the outer section which does not receive the inner member, is provided with an extension for engaging a supporting structure, and also with a prop stand.
