[Class 45] [Also in Group X] An open-mesh floor comprises strips of meshwork of the form shown in Fig. 5, each disposed between and rigidly connected to two adjacent members of a set of spaced parallel rectilinear load-carrying members 5a. The mesh-work, shown in Fig. 5, is formed by expanding the rectangular strip, shown in Fig. 1, which is provided with slits 1 or slots extending transversely from the edges towards the centre and alternating with parallel slits 2 extending from the centre towards the edges. The six-sided figures formed in the mesh lie in parallel planes inclined to the horizontal, and the higher parts of the mesh, which may be blunted to facilitate walking thereon, are all flush with each other. The inclinations of certain parts of the mesh provide runways or trough formations parallel to the longitudinal edges which facilitate the passage of the wheels of bogies or barrows. The mesh may be of any desired width to present two or more lines of openings, Fig. 7, or may be built up from two or more narrow strips slit as required and welded together side by side. In another construction, the slits or the inner parts of the slits are inclined across the strip. Metal or non-metallic strips may be used, examples of suitable metals or materials being alloys of iron and synthetic resin products, while rubber, laminated wood, plywood, aluminium, and aluminium alloy are also mentioned. Instead of being expanded from a flat strip, the mesh-work may be cast.
