Abstract

'[Class 20(ii)] In a roof structure comprising girders lying athwart one another on which a skin or plating is to be secured, the girders 10, 11 are formed from members of channel section secured together along their length back to back or channel to channel, the girders being halved together where they cross and one member 14, 20 of each girder being continuous through the joint and secured to the continuous member of the other girder which lies in a different plane, while two other members 15, 18 or 22, 24 of each girder abut either side of the continuous member of the other girder. At the joint the hollow sections may be filled with solid fillets, which may be riveted together, to transmit thrusts through the continuous members from the abutting members on each side. The continuous member at a joint may continue through a plurality of joints or the continuous members of the joints may be transposed from top to bottom in the length of a girder Plain channels welded together may be used for steel structures, riveted flanged members, as shown, for aluminium structures.
