Abstract

602,009. Ladder scaffolding. ST. MARS, Y. Aug. 14,1945, No. 20854. [Class 20(ii)] A ladder scaffold comprises a plank 7 supported by a pair of ladders each of which comprises stiles 1, steps 2 and bars 5 arranged between the stiles a short distance above each step. To erect the scaffold the plank is inserted in between corresponding steps and bars of the two ladders. The ladders are then caused to diverge downwardly to clamp the plank between the selected steps and bars. The steps may be reinforced by metal bars 3 beneath them and secured to the stiles. The bars 5 are housed in rectangular notches 4 cut in the stiles and are arranged with their greater thickness in the vertical direction for strength. The ends of the stiles are provided with holes 8 by means of which extension pieces 9 may be bolted thereto, the extension pieces being provided with a pair of spaced angle brackets 12 which overlap one edge of the stiles.
