Abstract

612,878. Cutting paper. DRENT, H. H. June 4, 1946, No. 16975. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1944. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group XVI] In a machine for cutting paper into measured lengths and winding these into rolls, cutting rolls 81, 82, Fig. 3, are brought into action when the speed of the measuring rolls 2, 3 is changed to a lower speed by a control mechanism driven from the roll 2 as described in the abridgment for Group XVI. A chain 50 then drives the cutting rollers for one revolution by means of a free-wheel clutch. The chain 50 is guided around the roller 82 by a curved guide 85. The driven wheel is provided with only one tooth. The roller 81 is fitted with a cutter 83 having a crenated edge and cooperates with a groove 84 in the roller 82. A straight cut edge may be obtained by a rotary cutter acting in conjunction with a straight fixed blade.
