Abstract

837,739. Making window envelopes and like articles. WINKLER, R., and DUNNEBIER, K. Dec. 23, 1957 [June 7, 1957], No. 39836/57. Class 73 Relates to a device for adhesively applying transparent pieces of paper &c. to moving blanks of paper or cardboard and especially to applying such pieces in the production of window envelopes. According to the invention transparent material 2 is drawn from a reel 1 at constant speed by feed rollers 3, 4 and is then passed to a cutting device comprising a stationary knife 7 and a rotary knife 8<SP>1</SP> in a cylinder 8. The severed pieces 12 of material are then passed to a suction roller 10 rotating at the same speed as the feed rollers 3, 4 and then to a pair of rollers 13, 14 rotating at a greater speed than the roller 10, the roller 14 also being a suction roller and serving to apply the pieces 12 to blanks 19 advanced on a rotary drum 20. The suction roller 10 holds the forward end of the material 2 firmly during the action of the knives 7, 8 and thus prevents displacement of the severed piece 12. Such displacement is also prevented during transfer from suction drum 10 to the suction roller 14 since the forward end of the piece 12 is clamped between a gripping edge 17 on the roller 14 and the counter roller 13 which is adjustable in relation to the edge 17.
