Abstract

726,988. Cutting machines. BEHR-MANNING CORPORATION. March 12, 1953, No. 6890/53. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] A machine for slitting an endless abrasive belt comprises rollers 52, 58, Fig. 6, supporting the belt 10; the roller 52 is driven, and the idler roller 58 is movable, by hydraulic mechanism 68, towards and away from the roller 52 to enable the belt to be placed in position. The roller 52 serves as an anvil for slitting blades 32 mounted for free rotation on a shaft 30, the blades being movable towards and away from operative position by hydraulic means 44. Notches are formed in the peripheries of the blades so that the slits 88, Fig. 4, are interrupted by unslit tab portions 98, these being relatively staggered from one slit to the adjacent one. The slits 88 extend across the join 84 of the belt. The slits may be interrupted by scores instead of by unslit portions. The roller 52 may be provided with integral cutting blades and the blades 32 replaced by an anvil roller.
