Abstract

548,455. Scraper conveyers. SHELTON IRON, STEEL & COAL CO., Ltd., SMALL E., and BLOOR, L. April 7, 1941, No. 4623. [Class 78 (i)] The push-plates 4 of an endless-chain scraper conveyer are made to feather by stationary guides 9, 10, 13 bearing respectively on the heel of the base 5 of each push-plate and on the plate itself. The guide 9 forms a fence to protect the working half of the chain 2, and is separated by a gap 12 from the guide 13 which turns the plate 14 into line with the chain on the idle traverse. The guide 10 swings the plates 4 back perpendicular to the chain at the end where the working traverse begins, and the heel may carry a wheel to lessen friction. Fig. 4 shows a push-plate 4 with teeth 4a at its outer end and a gap 7 between the plate and the support for the chain pintle bearings 8, 8a, the gap 7 serving to accommodate the guide 9. Some of the plates 4, e.g. alternate ones, may be formed as cutters, and the shaft of the leading sprocket wheel 3 may carry a rotary cutter to facilitate advance of the conveyer through the material, and loosen the material for conveyance.
