Abstract

910,804. Endless belt conveyers. WHITTING- TON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and PATES, A. D. Dec. 29, 1960, No. 44602/60. Class 78 (1). A driving drum for an endless belt conveyer comprises a frame formed by radial vanes 6 welded to a centre shaft 5, two metal strips 9, 10 being wound helically to opposite hands on the frame. The outer edges 8 of the vanes 6 follow a gentle arc and the radial distance of each strip 9, 10 gradually increases as the strips approach one another so that the drum presents a cambered surface. The strips may have a rounded external surface. The opposing helices of the strips act to maintain the conveyer belt central on the drum and surplus material cling- ing to the belt is dislodged by the strips to fall through gaps 11 between the strips. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a drum is adjustable for tensioning the conveyer belt.
