810,516. Splitting machines. FORTUNAWERKE SPEZIALMASCHINENFABRIK A.G. Sept. 12, 1956 [Sept. 14, 1955], No. 27879/56. Class 31 (1). A workpiece 5 is guided towards the cutting edge 6 of a band knife 7 by means of a radially resilient feed roller co-operating with a guide member 2 having projecting portions 31. The feed roller comprises a plurality of disc-like sections each consisting of outer and inner rings 30, 32 and an intermediate ring either of solid rubber 33 or of foam rubber 34. In operation, the portions 31 press the parts of the workpiece to be cut against sections 39 of the feed roller so as to displace these sections eccentrically relatively to the remaining roller sections. The portions 31 may be detachable and may be in the form of rollers.
