Abstract

850,757. Slotting webs. CHAMBON Ltd. July 8, 1959 [July 10, 1958], No. 22166/58. Class 31 (1). Apparatus for slotting at intervals an edge of a longitudinallyrunning web comprises at least two blades projecting generally radially with respect to, rotatable about and spaced relatively to one another along, a common axis parallel with and adjacent to an edge of the web, and means for rotating the blades about their axis at the same angular speed that is related to or dependent upon the linear speed at which the web travels, the axial lengths of the blades and the axial distance between them being such in relation to the linear speed of travel of the web that one blade makes cuts in the web each forming part of each of a series of slots and another blade makes cuts in the web each forming another part of each of the series of slots. A web 28, Fig. 3, is fed by means of a roller 1 over a table 3 and support rollers 4, 5 to a traction roller 2, the rollers 1, 2 being driven from a motor-driven shaft 7 by means of helical gears 8, 9. The slotting apparatus comprises two cutting assemblies 11, 12 mounted on a shaft 10, Fig. 2, and each comprising a blade 18 secured to a hub 17 journalled on the shaft 10. The hubs have mounted thereon angularly-adjustable gearwheels 19, 20 driven from the shaft 7 by means of gear-wheels 21, 22, 26 and 27, Fig. 3. The rotary blades 18 co-operate with plates 29, 34, 35, Fig. 2, adjustably mounted in recesses in the table 3. In operation, one of the blades cuts out a portion 39, Fig. 6, from the web. Then, after the web has travelled a further distance, dependent upon the angular displacement of the blade assemblies, the second blade cuts out another portion 40 overlapping the portion 39.
