Abstract

Cutting and severing machines.-In a method of and means for cutting a continuous web of paper into sheets, the web 1 is cut longitudinally by disc cutters, into strips of widths equal to the length and breadth of the required sheet, and the strips are then wound on to cutting reels 4, 2 mounted on separate shafts 8, 7 independently driven through belts 6, 5. The reels are provided with adjustable radial rods 3 of known kind which allow the circumferences of the reels to be adjusted so that, in the case of the strips of width equal to length of the sheets, the circumference is a multiple of the breadth of the sheet, and of the length of the sheet when the width of the strip equals the breadth of the sheet. When about five hundred windings are on the reels the former are cut through axially of the reel and the resulting sheets are transferred to a cutting table and subdivided into sheets of the required size.
