656,764. Creped or corrugated paper. ZAUFAL, F., and CIGARETTE COMPONENTS, Ltd. Dec. 3, 1948, Nos. 31399 and 6017. [Class 96] [Also in Groups VI and XVI] In a method of making cigarette plugs wherein strips of creped or corrugated material with the corrugations disposed longitudinally thereof are fed to a plug-making machine, the strips are placed end-to-end in two or more layers so that the butt joints in adjacent layers are displaced from one another. A continuous laminated band 19 is formed by four sheets of transversely-creped or corrugated paper wound from reels 10-13 arranged so that the edges of the sheets are displaced to give the band stepped edges. Strips cut from the band are placed end-to-end so that the stepped edges of successive strips interlock to form a band with the corrugations running longitudinally thereof, which is fed to the plug-making machine or rereeled. The edges of the band 19 may be slit or it may be perforated by a roller 17 to prevent the strips remaining curved when the reel is unwound. In a modification the band 19 is formed from reels of untrimmed paper which are trimmed by pairs of knives positioned to produce the stepped edges. Absorbent material may be interleaved with the paper. Specifications 462,540, 462,585 and 623,939, [all in Group VI], are referred to.
