Abstract

553,524. Slitting paper reels. McCAUSLAND, D. Feb. 13, 1942, No. 1956. [Class 31 (i)] Paper reels are slit by means of fixed or rotary discs 3 while one portion 6 of the reel is uncoiled, the adjacent portion 10 of the reel being left in a coiled formation. The discs 3 are mounted in pivoted arms 13 which may be weighted, and the arms carry rollers 5 which engage the portion 6 and regulate the depth of cut. There may be two or more cutting discs and the cut web or webs 15 may pass over guide rollers to a winding-up spindle or spindles 2, and the edges may be trimmed by means of saw-edged rollers 1 so as to bring the web to the required width. Lateral adjustment of the discs 3 and the cutters 1 may be effected. The uncoiled web may be fed direct to a printing-machine. When a stationary disc 3 is used it may be adjusted by worm mechanism to bring a fresh cutting edge into operation.
