[Also in Groups VIII and XVII] Apparatus for forming composite adhesive tape comprises two reels of adhesive strip which strips are each adhesive on one side only, the reels being so mounted on supporting means that the adhesive sides of the strips when unwound therefrom face each other and can be brought together to stick to each other with the edges of the strips out of register whereby composite tape is formed having one edge portion adhesive on one side, the other edge portion adhesive on the other side and the central portion consisting of the two overlapped tapes adhesive on neither side. As shown, adhesive strips 6, 13 are wound on to the drums 5, 12 mounted on a body 1, each reel being disposed in a substantially vertical plane, the central plane of reel 14 being slightly displaced from that of reel 7 so that the strips unwound overlap the edges of the strips not being in register, the reels also being mounted so that the strips when unwound have their adhesive sides face to face which are then threaded under a roller 18 pivotally supported in a bracket 17 to form the composite tape 19 the central portion of which consists of the overlap between the two strips and is adhesive on neither side whereas one edge portion is adhesive on the upper side and the other edge portion on the underside, which may be cut to any desired length by a cutter blade 16. More than one roller 18 can be provided, the rollers 18 being close together and parallel to each other and the strips being threaded between the rollers.
