Abstract

1,019,092. Cigarette making machines. THE MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. D. W. Molins and T. Rowlands. Jan. 24, 1963 [Jan. 26, 1962], No. 3097/62. Heading A2C. A method of making mouthpiece cigarettes by uniting a double-length mouthpiece portion M to two cigarette lengths C and then cutting midway through the mouthpiece portion to provide two mouthpiece cigarettes comprises the step of uniting the double-length mouthpiece portion to the two cigarette lengths by means of two relatively narrow adhesive uniting webs B formed from a single web which is longitudinally slit and the two web portions separated, the two webs B being then wrapped around an end portion only of the double-length mouthpiece portion and the adjacent end portion of a cigarette length. A single web of uniting material is fed from a supply reel and may be printed upon before being slit longitudinally into two webs 8a and 8b. The webs are separated to the required distance by guides 9 and 10, adhesive is applied to them and they are then cut transversely to make pairs of uniting bands B which are applied to the mouthpiece-cigarette groups. The groups are then cut midway through the mouthpiece to produce two filter cigarettes.
