Abstract

611,521. Latches. CADDICK, W., and RESILIENCE LOCK & MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Dec. 11, 1945, No. 33458. [Class 44] A latch bolt is provided with a transverse hole through the bolt head c and has a freefitting ball E accommodated therein, the disposition of the hole being such as to leave a portion of the chamfered end C<1> extending beyond the ball which extends laterally on one or both sides of the head to engage against guide-plates G. The ball serves to engage the striking plate before the chamfered end C<1>. The guide plates G may be carried by and project rearwardly from a fore end-plate H and each has an inner surface formed as longitudinal grooves g to fit the ball snugly. The back-plate A and the cap-plate D of the lock are recessed to allow guides G to project therethrough. The bolt head is pressed towards its shot-out position by one arm of a bell-crank lever, the other arm of which is spring pressed and lies normally against one of the horns of a follower to prevent the follower being turned in one direction while leaving it free to be turned in the opposite direction. According to the Provisional Specification, the ball may be replaced by a roller.
