Abstract

1,155,137. Latches. E. O. ORREVAD. 28 Nov., 1966, No. 53073/66. Heading E2A. A latch includes a plate 1 arranged to be fixed on a door or hatch and a substantially U shaped handle 2, one arm of which has its end portion attached to the plate while the other extends through a slot in the plate and has at its end portion a catch 3 for engagement with a striker plate, the handle acting as a spring to urge the arm bearing the catch away from the arm attached to the plate and being compressible to move the arm bearing the catch towards the arm attached to the plate to disengage the catch, wherein the plate is provided with guide means 5 which co-operate with parts 4, 9 of the handle such that the distance between the catch and the plate is increased as the arm bearing the catch is moved towards the arm attached to the plate. In the construction shown the guide means comprise surfaces 5, 8 the surfaces 5 co-operating with a thumb piece 4 of the handle and the surfaces 8 cooperating with projections 9 of the handle. The arm attached to the plate 1 has a claw 10 which grips a shackle 11 of the plate. Both the plate and the arm are made of plastics material.
