Abstract
608,788. Dividing by fusion. DOD, C. Feb. 19, 1946, No. 5214. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XI] In an oxygen jet metalcutting apparatus a long heating jet or a series of heating jets b and a forwardly inclined cutting jet e are directed on to the work h within a distance in the line of cut of less than 1 inch. The heating jets may be 0.025 inch bore spaced 0.07 inch apart and the cutting jet may be 0.15 inch from the last heating jet and machined 5 to 45 degrees from the vertical. The base of the nozzle formation may be stepped so that the cutting jet, which may be of convergent divergent section, is nearer the work than the heating jets. Side screens may be provided for the heating jets. An additional cutting jet l, inclined transversely to the line of cut may be provided to bevel one of the cut faces. The heating and cutting jets may be formed as separate units coupled together.
