857,408. Flame desurfacing. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. Oct. 1, 1958 [Oct. 3, 1957], No. 31330/58. Class 83 (4). A flame desurfacing apparatus has a set of nozzles 2-6 movable relatively to the surface of the workpiece 1, whose axes are inclined at an angle alpha to the direction of movement 8 and whose orifices lie in a common plane normal to the direction of movement, the first nozzle 2 only being provided with an igniting wire 7 to initiate melting of the work surface. The nozzles or the work are movable in the direction 8 and the nozzles are also mounted for .transverse movement 9 across the work or two groups of oppositely inclined nozzles both movable transversely may be used, the inner nozzles of each group having an igniting wire. Fuel gas and oxygen from a common control are supplied to the first nozzle 2 whilst one or more of the other nozzles 3-6 need be supplied with oxygen only at different jet capacities during the actual desurfacing. An additional desurfacing nozzle may be directed towards the side face of the work.
