Abstract

872,368. Oxygen lances. UNITED STEEL COS. Ltd. May 2, 1960 [May 1, 1959], No. 14986/59. Class 51 (1). An oxygen blowing lance for use in a steelmaking furnace has a central oxygen outlet 6 and lateral outlets 7, 8, one on each side of the central outlet with their axes diverging. Cooling water passages 9 are formed between the outlets. The lance may have a fourth outlet opening directing oxygen on to the melt at a steeper angle. The Specification gives suitable angles of inclination for the lance and angles of divergence for the lateral outlets.
