Abstract
618,065. Blowpipe burners. DOD, C. June 17, 1946, No. 18106. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A method of forming a J or half U channel on the edge of a plate consists in bevelling the edge of the plate and hollowing out the bevelled face the two operations being effected by means of an oxygen-jet cutting nozzle located above the plate and having a bevel cutting jet and a hollowing out jet to gouge out the bevelled face. A jet cutting nozzle d located above a plate f comprises a hole e directing a jet of cutting oxygen at an angle to form a bevelled face f<1> and a hole g directing a jet of oxygen to gouge the bevelled surface f<1> closely behind the bevelling jet. The gouging jet hole g may be directed backwards at about 20 degrees to the vertical and lies approximately in a vertical plane parallel to the line of travel. A heating nozzle a having a series of jet holes b moves in advance of the nozzle d. The nozzles a and d may be separate or combined and the nozzle d may be provided with independent heating jets and with an additional jet hole directing oxygen forward at an angle to the line of cut to give a square cut to the plate f prior to bevelling and gouging. Specifications 608,313 and 608,788 are referred to. -
