Abstract
749,782. Blowpipe burners. PAPPI, R. E. J. M. Aug. 14, 1953 [Aug. 19, 1952], No. 22409/53. Class 75(1). The nozzle 3 of a blowpipe burner for grooving or cutting metals has one or more heating gas outlet or outlets 5 located on one side only of an outlet 4 for cutting oxygen or other comburant so that the heating gas jet or jets 6 may be located under the jet 7 of oxygen or other comburant when the nozzle is inclined as shown for grooving a metal sheet 1, or may be located rearwardly of the jet 7 in the direction of movement of the burner during the cutting of a metal workpiece when the jet 7 is maintained substantially perpendicular to the latter, and the outlet or outlets 5 is or are inclined relatively to the outlet 4 whereby the heating jets 6 may impinge upon a metal workpiece being grooved or cut forward Qf the impact zone of the jet 7 in the direction of movement of the burner. In the described embodiment two heating gas outlets 5 are provided, and the outlet 4 for cutting oxygen or other comburant is formed in a protruding tip 10. The outlet 4 may have a restricted throat as illustrated in Fig. 4. For observing the grooving or cutting operation the burner may be fitted with an adjustable magnifying glass and a filter of a tint which varies throughout its area, and which is slidably mounted so that the intensity of the light received by the observer is variable.
