Abstract

570,912. Blowpipe burners. HANCOCK, L. J. Dec. 17, 1943, Nos. 21230/43 and 523/44. [Class 75 (i)] The oxygen cutting jets of a burner for gouging, scarfing, gap cutting or like operations are discharged through one or more concentric rings of slightly converging orifices 11 drilled in a plug 10 fitting tightly a member 2 formed with a central passage 9 for the oxygen and with a ring of orifices 12 for preheating gas jets. The member 2 screws into a member 7 carried by the burner head 4 and is surrounded by a sheath 1 secured by a nut to the burner head. The member 7 has flat sides to allow the passage of the preheating gas to an annular space 8 between the member 2 and the sheath 1. The orifices 12 may also converge towards the nozzle axis. An additional preheating burner may be mounted ahead of the gouging burner.
