581,350. Blowpipe burners. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. Feb. 24, 1945, No. 4663. Convention date, March 9, 1944. [Class 75 (i)) In a blowpipe nozzle, acetylene and preheat oxygen are led through separate passages to recesses 21 arranged round a cutting oxygen passage 10. The acetylene is supplied through sections 18, 19 (Fig. 1) to the base of each recess 21, while the preheat oxygen is supplied 'through passages 26, Fig. 2, to an annular space 24 connected to the recesses 21 by passages 25, Fig. 4. This space 24 is covered by an annular sleeve 23 which is a press fit in a groove 23. Each recess 21 has a diameter larger than that of either passage 21, 19 but less that the sum of the two, and a depth is preferably about twice its diameter so that the mixed gases do not burn inside the recesses and overheat the nozzle. To convert an ordinary blowpipe, inlet sections 18 of .055 inches diameter are back drilled and outlet sections 19 of .041 inches diameter front drilled and counterbored with a drill of .055 inches diameter to form the recesses 21. The preheat oxygen supply passages 26 are drilled with a drill of .0935 inches and stopped by plugs 30, inlet sections 27 of .055 inches diameter then being bored. Metal is removed from the forward end of the nozzle to provide the annular recess 22 and the annular space 24 and the preheat passages 25 are made with a drill of diameter :040 inches.
