Abstract
623,674. Heat treatment; quenching. ELECTRIC FURNACE CO., Ltd., and COSGRAVE, W. J. G. May 9, 1947, No. 12656. [Class 72] Heat treatment apparatus, in which a heated work piece is quenched by being moved relatively to nozzles for delivering quenching medium, includes at least one air nozzle C serving to direct a jet of air or gas at the work piece A, and at least one liquid nozzle D, controlled independently of the air nozzle, serving to direct a jet of liquid to impinge on the air or gas jet. The work piece may have been heated by induction heating means B. Secondary quenching nozzle or nozzles may be provided for directing a jet of quenching medium, e.g. liquid or spray, at a region of the work piece that has passed the primary quenching nozzle.
