Abstract
A method of refining a bath of molten metal by the injection of gas therein, characterized in that the gas is injected at supersonic velocities. The gas may be directed onto the surface of the metal at an angle from one or a plurality of jets. The Specification refers to the decarburizing of steel in open-hearth or electric arc furnaces or in a ladle using oxygen, nitrogen or air.
