Abstract
1,140,165. Cutting by fusion. MESSER GRIESHEIM G.m.b.H. 10 May, 1967 [10 May, 1966], No. 21769/67. Heading B3V. A continuously moving workpiece 10, particularly a continuous casting, is cut into lengths by an oxygen jet 16 which produces a tapered cut 14, the jet being inclined in the cutting direction, Fig. 2 (not shown), so as to ensure that the narrowest portion of the cut is completed first. The narrowest portion may be nearest the torch 12 but is preferably on the side of the workpiece remote from the torch. The shape of the cutting flame is adjusted by the oxygen pressure and the taper of the cut may also be varied by the cutting speed.
