Abstract

603,949. Spray carburetters. MANLEY & KALLENBORN, Ltd., and WATSON, W. G. Nov. 6, 1945, No. 29599. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] A starting carburetter draws its air supply from the interior of the engine structure to avoid hissing, and control means cut out the fuel jet during normal running. The carburetter comprises a valve 17 having two passages 19, 18 co-operating with conduits 9, 10 leading to the cam-shaft housing, the smaller 19 serving as an engine breather during normal running and the larger 18 supplying air to the fuel jet 22 for the starting mixture. A spring 26 biasses the valve 17 so that under normal running the cam-shaft housing communicates through the passage 19 and ball valve 39 with a passage 4 leading to the induction pipe, a plunger 21 blocking the fuel jet 22. A cam surface 43 is provided on the valve 17 so that on rotation at starting by a lever 25 the plunger 21 is raised from the jet 22 and the passage 18 communicates with the conduit 9. The valve 39 prevents damage due to backfiring, and the jet 22 is fed with fuel through a pipe 36 from the main float chamber.
