Abstract

602,490. Pistons. CLEMENTS, W. A. Aug. 2, 1945, No. 19903. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] A piston 28 forming part of a road-vehicle suspension device (see Group XXXII) is slidably mounted in a cylinder 22 which is connected with a compressed air reservoir 33 by a conduit 34 passing through the piston 28. The cylinder 22 carries a supply of luhricating oil into which dips the skirt 40 of the piston 28. Oil escaping past the piston 28 drains down a conically recessed upper surface 45 of the piston and passes through ducts 46 to the hollow interior of the piston-rod 29 in which is slidably mounted a hollow cylinder 42. A plunger 48, slidably carried within the cylinder 42, is secured to the upper end 49 of the pistonrod 29 and sucks oil from the ducts 46 through further ducts 47 in the cylinder 42. The oil is then pumped back into the main cylinder through a non-return valve 43.
