Abstract
737,644. Dashpots. FORTHMEIJER, C. O. A. Nov. 17, 1953 [April 11, 1953], No. 31819/53. Class 108 (3). In a hydraulic buffer in which the piston 3 has axial grooves which engage inwardly directed projections 9 on the cylinder wall 2, the cross-sectional area of the projections increasing towards the end of the cylinder remote from the piston rod 4, the surface of each projection, facing the cylinder axis, is curved along a line with continuously decreasing radius. A space 12 contains compressed air, inflated at 13. The cross-section of the ribs 9 may vary according to a parabolic law. The dashpot is applied to buffer a travelling crane. In operation, on compression, liquid is metered between the ribs 9 and their respective associated grooves in the piston. The return of the plunger is effected by the differential pressure acting on opposed faces of the piston and piston rod. This action may be implemented by a spring.
