Abstract

807,953. Rubber compression-springs. MOULTON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. May 22, 1956 [May 24, 1955], No. 14942/55. Class 108(3) The invention re lates to an auxiliary suspension arrange ment or resilient bump stop for vehicles, comprising a hollow rubber cylinder 1, the wall of which is corrugated internally and externally in respectively staggered relationship. According to the invention grooves 6 forming part of the external corrugations, are at least twice as deep as the grooves 7 of the internal corrugations so that the circumferential grooves 6 between the corrugations are open during the initial portion of the stroke to give the spring a low initial deflection rate, and during the latter portion of the stroke the corrugations close to afford an increased stiffness. A metal reinforcing ring or rings 5 are moulded in to the rubber wall, and the cylinder is moulded to a perforated metal end plate 2.
