Abstract

746,811. Lubricating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 12, 1954 [July 13, 1953], No. 20355/54. Class 12 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] A compressor for mounting within a container adapted to be filled with gaseous fluid for compression, including a hollow piston 13 reciprocable by means of a yoke 29 connected thereto and a cross-slide 31 reciprocable within the yoke 29, comprises an orifice 38 connecting the interior of the piston 13 to the inner periphery of the yoke 29, a passage 37 in the crossslide 31 for movement into and out of register with the orifice 38 during reciprocation of the cross-slide and a second passage comprising a groove 42 provided to connect the orifice 38 with the interior of the container at least intermittently. The passage 37 is connected to a bore 33 in the crank-pin 10, which is supplied with oil under pressure so that when the orifice 38 and passage 37 register oil is metered into the piston 13 and when depression exists within the piston gaseous fluid is forced in through the passage 42 and orifice 38 into the interior of the piston 13 whereby oil is carried into the interior of the working cylinder. The groove 42 may be replaced by either a bore or a groove in the cross-slide 31 which communicates with the interior of the container and intermittently with the orifice 38. The duct 37 which includes a groove 36 in the crossslide 31 may be replaced by a bore through the cross-slide intermittently communicating with a radial bore in the crank-pin 10, which if extended through the crank-pin causes metering twice per revolution.
