Abstract

610,541. Reciprocating pumps. ELECTROHYDRAULICS (MESSIER), Ltd., (formerly MESSIER AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT, Ltd.), and CALDWELL, H. B. Nov. 15, 1945, No. 30665. [Class 102 (i)] A variable-stroke reciprocating pump, preferably hand-operated, comprises a pair of pistons 1, 2 that are connected by rods 5, 7 to a T- shaped member 6 that is pivoted at its centre E to a member which moves on line XY a distance proportional to the delivery pressure of the pumps; the member may be directly exposed to the delivery pressure or moved by a servomotor. The end of the shank of the T-shaped member 6 is pivoted at F to a member that can slide longitudinally on the handle 14 that has a fixed pivot B. As the delivery pressure rises, the pivot E is lowered and the stroke of the pistons is reduced for equal movements of the handle 14. Whatever the stroke, the pistons always reach the same lowest point in the cylinders. An alternative arrangement is described wherein one piston is eliminated and the remaining piston is double-acting.
