Abstract
In an alumino-thermic process for the extraction of manganese or ferromanganese from manganese ores, a thermic mixture is used containing manganous oxide and manganese dioxide in the proportion 53 to 47 the oxygen content of this oxide mixture being between 28 and 30 per cent. Where escaping manganese vapours are to be recuperated, for use in the process, in the form of oxides, these metal vapours are forced, in their nascent state, into the formation of oxides having the above oxygen content by employing a reaction mixture containing 29.5-30.5 per cent of aluminium.
