Abstract
In aluminothermic and like exothermic processes for the extraction of metals other than iron from their compounds, preliminary heating of the reaction mixture is entirely avoided by incorporating in it alkali metal or alkali earth metal peroxides, for example, barium peroxide. Preferably 0.25-2.0 per cent of peroxide is used.
