Abstract

In a method of producing metals or alloys low in nitrogen by melting in a furnace, preferably an induction furnace, carbon dioxide, or a gaseous mixture containing not less than about 90 per cent of carbon dioxide and practically free from nitrogen, is introduced into the furnace above or through the molten metal.
