Abstract
Alloys of magnesium and an alkaline earth metal stable in air and containing approximately 5-35 per cent of the latter, are used in producing high vacua. An alloy of magnesium with 28 per cent of barium may be prepared by fusing the metals together in a crucible of carbon-free iron in an atmosphere of argon, helium or other inert gas.
