Abstract

Permanent magnets are made by melting iron with 15-25 per cent of nickel, 7-15 per cent of aluminium, and one or more of the metals titanium, zirconium, and antimony, and cooling the casting without quenching. In making the alloy, the titanium may be added in the form of an alloy consisting of 59,4 per cent of iron, 26,2 per cent of titanium, 1,4 per cent of silicon, 0,0067 per cent of carbon, 3 per cent of copper, and 10 per cent of aluminium, and the aluminium is preferably added last. The dimensions of the magnets are preferably such that the ratio between the surface in square mm. and the volume in cubic mm. is about 1 : 3,5.
