Abstract
In the manufacture of refractory metals such as tungsten, the metal is sintered at a temperature, not much below its melting-point in an atmosphere containing the vapour of another metal such as sodium. The operation may be carried out in atmosphere of hydrogen or inert gas such as argon. The metal to be vaporized may be contained in a vessel placed near the refractory metal and may be introduced into the sintering chamber by passing the inert gas over the heated metal.
