Abstract

Acid-proof iron-silicon alloys containing from 7 to 20 per cent silicon are made by melting down steel or cast iron or both with a ferrosilicon containing less than 40 per cent silicon. A charge consisting of 60 per cent ferrosilicon, of 25 per cent silicon content, 35 per cent steel clippings, and 5 per cent cast iron produces an iron-silicon alloy of 14 per cent silicon content.
