Alloys.-Aluminium steel is made by adding to molten steel an alloy containing about 40 per cent of iron and 60 per cent of aluminium. This alloy is made by deoxidizing a bath of cast iron or steel with aluminium or silicon and then adding the required amount of fused aluminium. When aluminium is used as the deoxidant, the amount added is just sufficient to prevent the formation of a scum when the bulk of the aluminium is added.
