Abstract

600,261. Pulse modulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 7, 1945, No. 3162. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1943. [Class 40 (v)] In a modulated pulse communication system, calling and other signalling is effected by the production of a signal interval during which the pulses are suppressed or displaced by a constant amount corresponding to a D.C. modulation, or modulated by a special low-frequency signal source. In one embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), applied to a pulse multiplex system, signalling keys are arranged to disconnect the outputs of the channel transmitters. At the individual channel receivers a valve responsive to the cessation of its pulse input operates a buzzer, through a relay, during the signalling intervals. In a second multiplex system, each channel is provided with a key 36, Fig. 3, which connects a D.C. source 35 to the channel modulator and the corresponding receiver demodulator 16 is arranged to produce a corresponding D.C. output which energizes relay 32 and buzzer 34 through valve 31 which is irresponsive to normal modulation fed to the channel output through condenser 24. The D.C. source may be replaced by a low-frequency signalling source and a low-pass filter provided at the receiver to select the signal output. Specifications 509,820, 521,139 and 600,259 are referred to.
