Abstract

1,036,009. Multiplex pulse code signalling. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. Jan. 1, 1965 [Dec. 4. 1963], No. 47932/63. Heading H4L. In a pulse communication system one binary signal is transmitted by a variation of phase or polarity of a reference signal, and a second binary signal is transmitted by a variation of the amplitude in the sense determined by the first signal, the ratio of the amplitudes being substantially 3: 1. The 3: 1 ratio ensures that the signal-to-noise ratios of the two signals are equalized. The reference signal may be of D.C. or of A.C. form. A number of such systems combining the outputs of pulse code modulators may be transmitted in frequency division multiplex, Fig. 2 (not shown).
