Abstract

270,001. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., (Western Electric Co.). Feb. 2, 1926. Diplex signalling ; thermionic modulating systems ; receiving systems.-In a binaural signalling system two interpretations of a common signal are transmitted by a common carrier wave modulated by two sets of electric impulses corresponding to the two interpretations. The Figure shows microphone 10, 11, supplying modulators 18, 19 through band filters 12, 14, and amplifiers 13, 15. The carrier is also impressed on the modulators from a source 22 and band filters 23, 24 are provided in the output 25, one adapted to pass the upper side band and the other the lower side band. At the receiver the wave is preferably separated by band filters into two components, the carrier and one side band and the carrier and the other side band, and applied totwo individual receivers. The two audio-frequency outputs may be applied to the two earpieces of a head set.
