Abstract
599,504. Rotary pumps. EBSARY, V. R. Aug. 30, 1945, No. 22338. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1944. [Class 110 (ii)] The pump is submerged in oil and comprises an eccentric rotor 41, pressed axially, to compensate for wear, by a spring 47 against an end wall 15, and a stator 23, provided with a vane 28 which is spring, or fluid, pressed to form pumping spaces alternately communicating with suction and discharge ports 33, 38. In Fig. 2, an arm 29 bears on the back of the vane. The vane may extend across the stator and be in two parts, pressed apart by springs. In Fig. 2, the rotor is driven through gearing 50, 51. An oil trap vessel 35 has an inlet pipe 57 which communicates with the pump inlet pipe 34. When the plunp is stationary, to prevent oil passing up the pipe 34 from the tank 10, due to vacuum in the vessel 35, a ball cock 55 falls and opens a valve 56 to allow communication between tanks 10 and 35. A number of inlet and discharge passages 32, 36 are provided along the length of the stator. An oil seal 58 is arranged to prevent air leaking in at a joint in the suction pipe 57. A groove 43 is sealed by oil and the rotor is cored out for lightening and balancing purposes. The discharge port 38 leads gas to a pipe 39 and an exhaust 40. An over load slipping-clutch 54 is provided. Fig. 5 shows a modification having a suction port 65 and discharge port 68 leading to ports 66 and 69 respectively. In addition, on the opposite sides of the stator, there are ports 71, 72 leading to an intercommunicating conduit 73. The parts 71, 72, 73 form a byepass for induced gases at the primary suction stage to the final suction stage and prevents the formation of back pressure in the pump.
